The Penguin Good Australian Wine Guide

The proprietors of Spinifex are husband-and-wife team Peter Schell and Magali Gely. They came to Australia from New Zealand in the early ‘90s and picked up experience in Europe along the way. The stylish, understated packaging and the great character of their small-volume Spinifex wines is most impressive. The rosé was fermented with wild yeasts and matured sur lie.

CURRENT RELEASE 2005

What a superb rosé! We don’t often get that excited about rosé, but this is lovely. It has a pale-ish pink colour of good fresh hue and a restrained, cherry/strawberry aroma. The palate is where it all happens, however, with very good intensity and fruit appeal, and a persistent, clean, dry finish that cries out for food. Excellent balance, too. Ideal with smoked salmon canapés.
